Atlanta to Bucharest
With contributions from Yoyi
Yoyi relates that we spent Shabbat at 34000 feet in the air, nice and close to Hashem, when she thanked Him (or Her, or It) for our great life and for having all of our friends and family in it. The dinner was good, the wine too, and we didn't have to cook or clean. Yippee!
Our flights were uneventful, and we arrived in Bucharest at 1:30 pm (local time). The time we spent in the lounges made for a more pleasant trip than it would otherwise have been. Bucharest is seven hours ahead of Atlanta.
The airport is named for Henri Marie Coandă. While there is some controversy, many -- including Henri -- believe that he was the inventor of the jet engine around 1910.
We were the first ones through customs and had to wait at least an hour until everybody else cleared. Even then they sent us on our way before two other people showed up.

It's nice to have your airport transportation and hotel prearranged for you. We simply checked in with our greeters at the airport, boarded the minibus, and arrived at the Hilton where our rooms were ready for us.
While Yoyi tried to rest from our travels I went out searching for a cell phone store where I could buy a sim chip. Turns out they were all closed.
The orientation meeting was to be at 6 o'clock so we tried to sleep until then. Getting up at 6 o'clock, however, turned out to be more difficult than we anticipated and we ended up showing up at the orientation session just a few minutes before it was over.
After the meeting we went out to dinner for the first time in this strange new city. Then we took a stroll around the neighborhood. They were filming a first world war movie across the street from the hotel. Later in the evening there were all kinds of explosions and gunfire in the movie set.
We went to bed exhausted.
