Baking Bread on a Working Person's Schedule
35 years ago, when I was a working man -- not yet retired -- I occasionally gave a class called "Making Fine Bread on a Workingman's Schedule." Yes, it was not yet gender-neutral, but I have come around since.
In the meantime, a few weeks ago, I held a class at my home to teach people how to make bread. We learned a couple of breads, including challah, and we learned a couple of soups. Then we all sat down together to eat the product.
There was an enrollment fee, which was to the benefit of Congregation Shearith Israel.
The class was great fun, and lunch was delicious. Everyone went away having had a positive experience.
Since then, I have received emails reporting that participants have made bread successfully. It really does work.
